Two surgeries on Mirza Abbas's brain

Two rounds of surgery have been performed on the brain of Mirza Abbas, the Political Advisor to the Prime Minister and a member of the BNP Standing Committee, who is currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. Yesterday evening, the BNP Health Affairs Secretary, Dr. Rafiqul Islam, stated that a medical board comprising specialist physicians decided on the surgery after reviewing his overall condition. Following that decision, the operation was completed a short while ago. Earlier in the morning, a CT scan was conducted on Mirza Abbas. When the report showed a deterioration in his condition, a virtual medical board was promptly convened, and after reviewing all aspects, the decision for surgery was made. Mirza Abbas will now remain under intensive observation by doctors in the ICU.

Dr. Rafiq mentioned that the medical board includes the country’s renowned neuro-specialists. The board consists of Professor Ali Uz-Zaman Joardar, Professor Kazi Deen Mohammad, Professor Shahabuddin Talukdar, Professor Raziul Haque, Professor Sayeed Ahmed, Professor Kader Sheikh, Professor Shafiqul Islam, and other physicians from Evercare Hospital.

Earlier, the BNP had announced that Mirza Abbas would be taken to Singapore by air ambulance around 6:00 PM on Friday for advanced treatment. He was to be admitted to the Neuroscience Department of Singapore National University Hospital. However, as his physical condition worsened after the morning, the medical board stepped back from the plan to take him abroad. Mirza Abbas’s son, Mirza Yasir Abbas, stated that the surgery had to be performed at Evercare Hospital upon their advice.

Consequently, the plan to take Mirza Abbas to Singapore has been postponed for now. It is reported that this decision was made because his physical condition is not currently suitable for travel outside the country. BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam said that Mirza Abbas’s family has confidence in the local medical treatment. However, if the medical board deems it necessary in the future, the option of taking him abroad for advanced treatment may be considered. His family has requested the nation to pray for his speedy recovery.

Earlier, after the Jummah prayers yesterday, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited the hospital to see Mirza Abbas. He inquired about the treatment, stayed by Mirza Abbas’s bedside for a while, and spoke with his family members. He also instructed the concerned authorities to make arrangements for his treatment in Singapore. Mirza Abbas’s wife and the President of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, Afroza Abbas, along with the attending doctors, were present at the hospital.

Notably, Mirza Abbas was admitted to Evercare Hospital on Wednesday night after falling ill and losing consciousness. He was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Dhaka-8 constituency in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
