BD confirms 9 more deaths from coronavirus, 306 new cases

Bangladesh today confirmed nine more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 306 new cases of infection in last 24 hours.

Some 2,190 samples were tested during the time.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rises to 84 and the number of total infected person stands at 2,144.

"Among the dead persons, six were from Dhaka, two from Narayanganj and one from Savar. Four of them were aged 60 plus," the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Director Professor Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora made the disclosure in a virtual briefing today. 

"So far, the highest number of coronavirus infection has been diagnosed in Dhaka with around 32%. After Dhaka, now Gazipur, Narsingdi and Kishorganj are respectively potential hotspots for virus spread in the country," the IEDCR director added.

"Among the newly infected 306 patients, 62% are male and 38% are female. The highest number of people belongs to the age range of 21-30 with 27%, when the next in line are age 31-40 and 41-50 age groups with respectively 22% and 19%," she added.

Dr Flora also said, "Eight patients have cured in last 24 hours and a total of 66 patients cured so far."

"Some 2,244 samples were collected in last 24 hours and tested 2,190 samples. So far 21,191 samples have been tested across country," Additional Director General of Health Directorate Nasima Sultana said in the briefing. 

She also said, currently coronavirus tests are being done at 19 labs in the country. Jashore Science and Technology University joined the testing newly.

"564 Covid-19 patients are receiving treatments at different hospitals, including 11 of them in ICUs, and the rest of the people are in home isolation. In a period of 24-hour- from Friday 8am to Saturday 8am- 66 people were put in isolation making the total to stand at 599 after 34 left. So far 512 left isolation facilities across the country," she added.

Nasima Sultana further said, "Currently, 44,227 people are living in home quarantine and 4,048 at institutional quarantine including 3,815 new addition to the country's quarantine list. As of yet 71,393 left quarantine including 4,026 in last 24 hours."

AS many as 98,907 services were provided via three designated hotlines and 69,538 via mobile app and website in last 24 hours.

The total number of virus screening conducted in last 24-hour period are 317, including 47 in airports, 122 in land ports and 148 in seaports, with a total of 671,397 thus far.
