COVID-19 pandemicBD reports 2 more deaths, 665 new cases


Bangladesh today reported 665 new coronavirus cases, its highest daily number till date, testing 5,368 samples in the last 24 hours bringing the total to 9,455 confirmed infections. 

Two more deaths from the virus were reported, increasing the total to 177.

"One of the dead patients is from Narayanganj and another from Rangpur," Additional Director General of Health Directorate Professor Dr Nasima Sultana made the disclosure during a virtual briefing today.

"5,214 samples were collected in last 24 hours and 5,368 samples were tested. A total of 81,434 samples have been tested so far," she added.

According to the new guideline of Covid-19 recovery confirmation by the clinical management committee, so far 1063 patients have recovered, including 624 in Dhaka city, Dr Nasima said further.

Some 439 patients have recovered from different division hospitals' across the country; they are respectively: Dhaka- 271, Chattogram-72, Mymensingh- 31, Barisal- 29 , Rangpur- 25, Khulna- 6, Rajshahi- 2, and Sylhet- 2.

Of the 624 recovered patients from different Dhaka city hospitals, Kuwait Maitree Hospital and Kurmitola General Hospital are leading with 298 and 213 respectively.

Next in line are: Dhaka Mohanagar General Hospital - 38, Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital - 26, Sajeda Foundation Hospital - 22, Regent Hospital - 15, Infectious Diseases Hospital - 8, and Mirpur Lalkuthi General Hospital - 4.

Currently, 67,739 people are in quarantine, including 9,874 people freshly went in and 2,149 left, according to the latest data provided during the virtual health bulletin.

Nasima Sultana said that the authorities took 65 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation – bringing the total to 1,637 after 1,082 left. The country is capable of accommodating 3,635 people for service at 601 isolation wards across the country.

However, there are - 9,738 isolation beds, 341 ICU facilities and 102 dialysis beds - available for the treatment of coronavirus infected patients in the country.

As many as 3,905,612 hotline services were given by 15,588 trained doctors via three designated numbers, including 70,221 in last 24-hour till 8am today. Through mobile phone and websites, 1,657,272 services were provided, including 17,008 new services, added Nasima.

Till date, a total of 678,280 thermal screenings were conducted at different ports, including 332 at airports, 167 at seaports and 61 at land ports in the last 24 hours.

The virus has killed 244,874 people globally and infected 3,497,006 so far.
