Bangladesh records highest-ever spike in Coronavirus.21 deaths, cases in 24 hours

Bangladesh saw the highest case and death from coronavirus as 21 more people died from the virus infection and 1602 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours to 8:00 am on Monday.

The death toll due to the deadly virus infection reached at 349, Additional Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana said.

With the 1602 new infection, which is also the highest one-day spike in coronavirus cases, the number of such cases in the country rises to 23,880, she added.

Prof Dr Nasima came up with the disclosure in the daily online news bulletin at the Management Information System (MIS) in the afternoon.

During the same period, a total of 212 patients of COVID-19 made their recovery in the country. With this, a total of 4585 people have so far made recovery.

Among the deceased, 37 were male and 4 were female, Dr Nasima added.

A total of 9788 samples were tested across the country during the period.

On Sunday, 14 people died and 1,273 people tested positive for the highly infectious disease in the country.

Bangladesh registered the first case of coronavirus on March 08 and the first death 10 days later on March 18.

Globally, coronavirus first reported in China, has so far infected 4,818,025 people around the world and killed 316,925 of them, according to worldometer.info, a website that provides real-time updates.

Of the infected, 2,637,230 are currently being treated while 44,821 of them are in serious or critical condition, the website data shows.

As the virus began sweeping across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
