COVID-19 pandemicBD reports 37 more deaths, 2,459 new cases


Bangladesh today confirmed 37 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 2,459 new cases of infection after testing 10,625 samples in 80 labs in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 2,618 and the number of total infections stood at 204,525.

Of the dead patients, 29 are men and eight women. Moreover, 15 of them are hailed from Dhaka, eight from Chattogram, seven each from Khulna, three from Rajshahi, two from Sylhet, and one each from Rangpur and Mymensingh division.

Additional Director General (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the latest figures during the daily virtual health bulletin at 2:30 pm today.

"Thirty-two of them have died in different hospitals and five at their respective homes," she added.

According to the analysis of Covid-19 victims' age groups as of today, the highest number of patients - 44.46 percent or 1,164 - died till date are aged sixty and above. The age groups of 51-60 and 41-50 come next with respectively 29.72 percent (778) and 14.13 percent (370). Rest of the age groups stand under seven percent, such as- 31-40 with 6.91 percent (181), 21-30 with 3.02 percent (79), 11-20 with 1.11 percent (29) and under ten with 0.65 percent (17).

The gender-wise analysis of the victims disclosed that some 2,069 people who have died from Covid-19 are males and 549 are females, which are 79.03% and 20.97% respectively.

District-wise, out of 2,618 fatalities till date, 49.05 percent or 1,284 are hailed from Dhaka division, 25.44 or 666 percent from Chattogram, 6.23 percent or 163 from Khulna, 5.31 percent or 139 from Rajshahi, 4.66 percent or 122 from Sylhet, 3.74 percent or 98 from Barishal, 3.39 percent or 88 from Rangpur and 2.22 percent or 58 from Mymensingh.

Dr Nasima Said, "Some 10,935 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 10,625 were tested in 80 labs across the country. So far 1,028,299 samples have been tested."

Besides, some 1,546 patients have recovered during the time, increasing the tally to 111,642.

Around 54.59 percent of novel coronavirus patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have recovered in Bangladesh so far, while 1.28 percent have died.

The latest day's infection rate was 23.14 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 19.89 percent.

Currently, 59,854 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,686 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 350,143 people have completed their quarantine course.

The country is capable of accommodating 31,991 people at 629 institutional quarantine facilities across the country.

Nasima Sultana said, "The authorities placed 609 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 18,591 after 23,556 left."

As many as 16,924,681 hotline health services were given by 16,495 trained and 4,217 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 96,283 in the last 24-hour till 8am today.

The virus has killed 604,880 people globally and infected 14,424,525so far.
