BD reports 32 deaths, 2,028 cases in 24 hours


Fatalities from Covid-19 infection rose to 3,657 with 32 more new deaths reported in 24 hours.

Another 2,028 new infections have been reported in the same period from the 10,018 samples tested, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a media release on Sunday.

In the 24 hours to Sunday morning, 14 people died in Dhaka division, six in Rajshahi, three each in Chittagong and Barisal, and two each in Sylhet, Khulna, and Rangpur.

The total number of infections now stands at 276,549. 

Of samples tested in the last 24 hours, 20.20% tested positive. 

Bangladesh has so far tested 1,351,666 people with a test positivity rate standing at 20.46%. 

The official recovery rate stands at 57.48 percent and the mortality rate at 1.32% with the latest deaths of 25 males and seven females.

Over 70% hospital beds for Covid-19 patients empty 

In its media release on the daily virus update, the DGHS said that as many as 10,870 hospital beds out of over 15,255 have remained empty, which accounts for a little over 71% of hospital beds for Covid-19 patients being unused. 

Of 543 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 219 are empty, it said.

Currently, 20,339 people are in isolation and 41,733 have been released from isolation.
