BD report 42 more deaths, 2,485 new cases


Bangladesh confirmed 42 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till 8am on Monday.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 3,983, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last 24 hours, 2,485 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 2,97,083.

Of the dead patients, 31 were men and eleven were women. Moreover, 21 of them hailed from Dhaka, seven from Chattogram, six from khulna, three from Rajshahi, two each from Rangpur and Mymensingh, and one from Barishal division.

Thirty-eight of them have died in different hospitals and four at their respective residences.

A total of 3,784 patients were declared free of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours and the total number of recoveries reached 182,875. 

Some 13,675 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 13,382 were tested in 91 labs across the country. So far 1,456,038 samples have been tested.

Around 61.56 percent of novel coronavirus patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have recovered in Bangladesh so far, while 1.34 percent have died.

The latest day's infection rate was 18.75 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 20.40 percent.

The virus has killed 812,513 people globally and infected 23,583,616 so far.
