COVID-19 pandemicBD reports 60 more deaths, 1452 new cases

Bangladesh reported 1,452 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours ending at 8am Saturday, which is the lowest in number in 48 days. 

On 14 March, on the onset of the second wave of coronavirus, Bangladesh reported 1,159 cases in 24 hours. Since then the daily infections kept rising, surging up to 7,626 on 7 April. 

With today's figures, the total Covid-19 case count stands at 7,60,548 in the country and the positivity rate was 9.61% on Saturday. 

Meanwhile, the country logged 60 more deaths from the dreaded virus in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 11,510. However, the death rate remained unchanged during the period with a 1.51% fatality rate being reported for the past few days.  

Also, the number of samples tested during the 24-hour period was lower than that of the last few days. The country tested 15,117 samples in its 420 labs on Saturday, which was 21,046 a day ago.

Among the latest day's victims, 37 were men, and 23 were women. All the victims died in different hospitals across the country. 

Moreover, 28 of the deceased hailed from the Dhaka Division, 19 from Chattogram, five each from Rajshahi and Khulna, two from Rangpur and one from Barishal division.

Also, 3,245 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, with an 90.02% recovery rate.

The Covid-19 victims' gender breakdown shows that 8,390 of the total deceased across the country were men and 3,120 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.

India on Saturday reported more than 400,000 cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the last 24 hours, for the first time since the pandemic began, as the infection tally crossed the 19 million mark, according to the Union ministry of health and family welfare. With 401,993 fresh cases, India's Covid-19 tally has risen to 19,164,969.

According to the health ministry, 3,523 patients succumbed to the viral disease in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 211,853. 

As of Saturday, 3,195,752 people have died of Covid-19 globally with 152,078,798 cases of infection have been recorded so far.
