NCC polls underway

Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) polls have begun on Sunday morning. 

The voting started in 192 polling centres in 27 wards around 8:00 am and will continue till 4:00 pm.

The constituency has a total number of 517,362 registered voters; 259,846 men, 257,511 women and four people from third gender communities.

The polls will be held through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). Therefore, 2,912 EVM machines have been sent to Narayanganj.

Two heavyweight candidates – Awami League-nominated mayoral candidate Selina Hayat Ivy and independent mayoral candidate Taimur Alam Khandaker – vigorously campaigned to woo voters and earn their support. Other candidates also ran campaigns.

The election campaign ended at 12:00 am on Saturday midnight.

Selina Hayat Ivy cast her vote at Deubhog Kalrab polling centre around 9:30 am while Taimur cast his vote at Masdair Primary Government School around 10:00 am.

Enough measures have been taken for the election considering the possibility of any kind of violence.

More than 5,000 members of the law enforcement agencies have been deployed to ensure security.

If Selina Hayat Ivy wins the election, she will be the first to become mayor for the third time in a row.
