Noab announces six-day Eid holiday for newspapers

Journalists and other officials working in the newspaper sector are set to enjoy a six-day Eid holiday, beginning on April 9, as per the decision of the Newspapers Owners Association of Bangladesh (Noab).

Eid-ul-Fitr, as well as the days preceding and following it, are considered general holidays by tradition.

Thus, if Ramadan lasts 30 days, April 10-12 (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday) are official government holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eid will be observed on April 10 if the month is 29 days long, marking the start of the holiday period on April 9.

Newspaper offices would be closed on April 14 in observance of Pohela Boishakh, hence NOAB notified in a letter that no newspapers will be published on April 15.

The Newspaper Hawkers' Multipurpose Cooperative Society has expressed worry about probable service delays, particularly because the Pohela Baishakh holiday falls just after Eid.

Furthermore, the leading journalists' organizations, the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and the Dhaka Union of Journalists (Duj), have requested Noab announce a special holiday on April 13.

Following today's meeting, NOAB members decided in order to declare April 13 a special holiday, resulting in a six-day holiday break for journalists.
