Bangladesh globally on top in GDP growth


Bangladesh has topped the growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the last 10 years since 2009, according to the recently released Spectator Index.

This was discussed at the Cabinet meeting held at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

During the decade, Bangladesh’s GDP grew by 188 percent according to the index released on August 29 last, said Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam while briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting.

“We’ve secured the number one position in the world in achieving GDP growth in the last 10 years since 2009 on the basis of the current price method,” he said.

Quoting the index, he said, the GDP growth of China is 177 percent, while by 117 percent, Indonesia 90, Malaysia 78 percent, Australia 41 percent and Brazil by 17 percent during the period.
