Ad-din Hospital’s licence cancelled over newborn deaths

The licence of Ad-din Medical College Hospital in the capital’s Moghbazar has been cancelled after authorities found its explanation unsatisfactory regarding the deaths of six newborn babies.

Professor Dr Prabhat Chandra Biswas, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services, announced the decision at a press briefing on Thursday afternoon.

Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain said he was not satisfied with the explanation provided by the hospital authorities over the incident.

Earlier, The newborns died while undergoing treatment in the hospital's post-delivery ward. Health minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain visited the hospital following the incident.

Professor Dr Nahida Yasmin, director general (Hospitals and Nursing) of the hospital, confirmed the deaths on May 27.

The father of one of the deceased newborns later filed a case alleging negligence, naming several unidentified individuals as accused.
