Over 99pc factories paid wages, Eid bonuses to workers: BGMEA
Apparel workers from over 99% of factories in Dhaka, Gazipur, Savar, Mymensingh, Narayanganj, and Chattogram received wages of May and bonuses for Eid-ul-Azha, according to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of Muslims, will be celebrated in the country on 7 June.
In a report published on Thursday, the apparel trade body said 2,090 factories (99.90%), out of 2,092, paid festival allowances, while 2,085 (99.67%) cleared wages of the last month to their workers.
Seven of the factories were still processing payroll, it added.
In another report, the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) said 98.67% of its member factories paid Eid bonuses and 99.33% of those cleared May wages to workers.
