UGC's directive for free Wi-Fi facilities in all universities within two months

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all public and private universities in Bangladesh to launch free Wi-Fi facilities within the next 60 working days. This decision was finalized during a meeting on Wednesday (March 25) chaired by UGC Chairman Dr. Mamun Ahmed, as part of the government's election manifesto to enhance digital access in education and support student research. Initially, the free Wi-Fi service must be ensured in university libraries, common rooms, and cafeterias, with technical assistance from the Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN). The coverage will eventually be expanded to residential halls and other research facilities. Top UGC officials and IT experts attended the meeting, emphasizing the swift development of student-friendly digital infrastructure across higher education institutions.
