Bangladesh-India border conference kicks off Monday in New Delhi
The four-day, 55th Border Conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Border Security Force (BSF) is set to begin today in New Delhi, India.
Shariful Islam, public relations officer (PRO) of the BGB, confirmed this to the Daily Sun.
A 13-member delegation, led by BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, will take part in the conference.
Along with the BGB team, officials from the Chief Adviser’s Office, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Shipping, the Department of Land Records and Surveys and the Joint River Commission will also attend, according to a BGB press release issued on Sunday.
The conference is scheduled to conclude on 20 February 2025, with the Bangladesh delegation expected to return home on the same day.
At this DG-level meeting, several key bilateral issues will be discussed, including border killings, illegal crossings, the construction of unauthorised infrastructures, violations of international boundary laws, the Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP), the installation of barbed wire within 150 yards of the border, ongoing development works, and the establishment of a suitable water refinery to treat wastewater from Agartala to Akhaura, according to the press release.
