Teachers declare class boycott over nationalization demand

Police blocked the leaders of the Nationalization Aspirants Unity Alliance on Tuesday as they attempted to march to the Secretariat, demanding the nationalization of private MPO-listed educational institutions.

In response, protesting teachers announced a nationwide class boycott.

The announcement came during a gathering in front of the National Press Club, where the teacher leaders reiterated their key demands, including nationalization of MPO-listed educational institutions, 100% festival allowance before Eid-ul-Fitr, and house rent and medical allowance at the same rate as government employees.

They also warned that if the festival allowance is not granted, they would offer Eid prayers in the Jamuna River as a form of protest.

Earlier, at around 12:30pm, teachers attempted to march towards the Secretariat but were stopped by police, leading to heated exchanges and a brief scuffle.

After being dispersed, they reassembled in front of the Press Club and vowed to continue their movement until their demands are met.

Teachers have been staging a sit-in in front of the National Press Club since February 12 to push for the nationalization of MPO-listed institutions.

During this period, they have attempted to march to the Secretariat and the Chief Advisor’s Office, but were blocked by police on multiple occasions.
