Sholakia hosts largest Eid-ul-Azha congregation
The largest Eid-ul-Azha jamaat (congregation) in the country was held on the historic Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj on Saturday with the participation of thousands of devotees amid stringent security measures.
At 9am, Mufti Abul Khayer Mohammad Saifullah conducted the Eid prayer that started following the custom of opening blank fire.
Sholakia Eidgah held its 198th Eid-ul-Azha congregation this year. A special prayer was offered seeking peace, welfare, and prosperity of the nation, countrymen, and Muslims across the world.
Members of the police, Rapid Action Battalion, Border Guard Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Army were deployed to ensure security and hold the Eid congregation smoothly.
Two special trains ran between Bhairab-Kishoreganj and Mymensingh-Kishoreganj to facilitate the Muslims joining the country’s largest Eid jamaat.
In 1828, the first Eid jamaat was held on this ground. Maulana Sayed Ahmed of Bowlai Shaheb Bari in Kishoreganj was the first Imam to conduct the congregational prayer attended by about 125,000 devotees.
Later, Mannan Dad Khan, former Dewan of Haibatnagar in Kishoreganj offered 4.35 acres of land through Waqf deed in 1950 and now the Eidgah has seven acres of land. This Eidgah is situated on the northern bank of the Norsunda River.
