Modern Islamic complex to be built at Pagla Mosque Waqf Estate: Adviser Khalid
A modern Islamic complex will be constructed at Pagla Mosque Waqf estate in Kishoreganj at an estimated cost of Tk60 crore, said Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain on Sunday.
Adviser Khalid said this at a press briefing after a discussion meeting with the Pagla Mosque and Islamic Complex Management Committee in the morning.
He said Pagla Mosque is a historic mosque in Bangladesh under the management of Pagla Mosque Waqf Estate where people from across the country come to pay respects and offer donations and charity.
He added that over Tk90 crore has been collected in the mosque’s fund, from which the new Islamic complex will be built in Turkish architectural style.
The 10-storey complex will include a madrasha, orphanage, library, auditorium, and guesthouse facilities.
Adviser Khalid said daily offerings at the mosque include livestock such as cows, goats, ducks, and chickens which are auctioned at the end of the day.
As irregularities in the auction process have led to the sale of these items below fair value the estate management committee was advised to form a sub-committee to oversee daily auction procedure, he added.
The adviser also urged that profits earned from the Pagla Mosque Waqf Estate funds be used to assist the destitute and impoverished segments of society, particularly those suffering from incurable diseases, poor students, orphans, and widows.
Waqf Administrator Nur Alam, Deputy Commissioner Fauzia Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mizab Rahmat and other committee members attended the meeting.
Earlier, Dr Khalid visited the under-construction Kishoreganj District Model Mosque and Cultural Centre.
