ACC deputy director suspended


The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has suspended its Deputy Director Mahbubul Alam on corruption allegations.

An ACC notification, dated 4 September, has been issued in this regard. ACC Chariman Dr Md Abdul Momen has signed on the notification.

Mahbubul Alam will continue to get subsistence allowance until completion of probe into the allegations.

The notification states that the decision was taken at an ACC meeting on 27 August based on numerous media reports.

Mahbubul Alam allegedly extorted hundreds of crore taka by threatening people with graft lawsuits, and pocketed more from potentially corrupt individuals in exchange for clearing their names, the notification read, citing media reports.

The accused has properties worth more than Tk150 crore in the capital's Gulshan, Demra, Joar Sahara and Jamalpur's Sharishabari, among other areas.
