Court orders seizure of Tk44cr assets of Nassa Group chair

A Dhaka court on Monday ordered the seizure of a residential plot in Gulshan and 14 bighas of land worth Tk44.78 crore belonging to Nassa Group Chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder over allegations of acquiring wealth beyond his known sources of income.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the application, Nazrul Islam Mazumder allegedly abused his power and amassed assets worth Tk781.31 crore through bribery and corruption, inconsistent with his known sources of income.

The application further stated that the accused had been attempting to sell the properties under the guise of paying workers’ salaries and settling other dues of Nassa Group.

The seizure of the assets is necessary. Otherwise, the state would incur financial loss, the petition said.
