Fire Service forms probe committee over Korail Slum fire


The Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) has formed a five-member committee to probe the devastating fire the erupted at Korail Slum in the capital's Tejgaon area on Tuesday.

The committee has been asked to submit the probe report within 15 working days, Md Shahjahan Sikder, assistant director at FSCD Headquarters confirmed.

The five members of the committee are: FSCD deputy director (operation and maintenance) Md Mamunur Rashid, assistant director at Dhaka office Kazi Nazmuzzaman, deputy assistant director Atish Chakma, senior station officer at Tejgaon Md Nazim Uddin Sarker and warehouse inspector Md Sohrab Hossain.

The committee has been tasked with finding out the cause behind the fire and ascertaining the losses caused by the blaze.

Around 9:30am on Wednesday, the fire was fully doused after 16 hours of strenuous efforts, officials of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) said.

Earlier, the fire service announced that 19 firefighting units fought for five hours to bring the fire under control at 10:35pm on Tuesday.

The fire started at 5:22pm on Tuesday. No casualties have been reported so far.
