Advisers Mahfuj, Asif Mahmud resign

Interim government’s Advisers Mahfuj Alam and Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain have resigned from their posts, said sources at the Chief Adviser’s Office on Wednesday evening.

The two young advisers submitted their resignation letters after holding a discussion with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus in the evening.

The Chief Adviser’s Office is set to convene a press briefing at State Guesthouse Jamuna around 6:15pm potentially to confirm the resignations, BBC Bangla reported citing sources at the office.

Earlier, in the day, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud told reporters at the Secretariat that he would certainly contest the upcoming general elections.

His resignation from government ahead of the elections will be confirmed later by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, said Asif Mahmud, also the adviser at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The adviser, however, did not specify which party he would represent in the elections.

It is worth noting that Asif Mahmud has already registered as a voter of Dhaka-10 constituency, after transferring his voting area from Cumilla.
