Tuku's intervention brings development in Tangail-5

The Dhaleshwari River flows through Bahuli and Makor Kol villages of Mahmud Nagar Union of Tangail Sadar-5 constituency. During the rainy season, the river is full of water and during the dry season, there is 1/2 foot of water at the bottom of the river. Almost all parts are covered with sand. During the rainy season, most of the people of Makor Kol, Balia Para, Birbaruha, Saratail, Kukuriya, Chitulia and Chauhali upazilas on the west bank of the river cross the river in engine-powered boats every day to come and go to Tangail Sadar. During the dry season, two and a half to three thousand people from this area cross the river in horse-drawn carriages, auto-rickshaws and on foot. The elderly, children, women and sick people have to cross the river with inhuman difficulty. Besides, as Major Mahmudul Hasan High School is located on the banks of the Makor River, hundreds of students cross the river in boats or boats every day.

Major General Mahmudul Hasan, during the time when BNP was in power, had constructed a paved road from Tangail Sadar to the Dhaleshwari River. But he could not construct the bridge. Therefore, the people of the western bank of Tangail and Chauhali Upazila demand the construction of an RCC bridge on the Dhaleshwari River. The length of the bridge will be about 700 meters. A clearance certificate for this bridge has already been sent from BIWTA to LGED.

Recently, this reporter spoke to the people of the Char area. They said, after Major General Mahmudul Hasan, we have placed our trust in BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku. I have heard that he will get nomination from Tangail Sadar. He has already stood by the people of the Char area in various ways. On his recommendation, 8 road works have been approved, which we have learned from the people of the Char area that will be completed before the elections. He has also extended his support to many social activities including mosques and madrasas. We the people of the Char area want to see Sultan Salahuddin Tuku as an MP. The people of Tangail have expressed their hope that if he becomes an MP, he will also become a minister.

Meanwhile, the race for nominations has begun around the 13th National Parliament election. Everyone is making every effort to secure nominations. With the election ahead, there is a new surprise in the list of BNP nomination candidates. There is a possibility of a new surprise in Tangail-5 constituency as well. In the meantime, BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku is going to gain the trust of the voters and also get the party's green signal.

Talking to the people of the char areas, it was learned that the long-standing neglect and stepmotherly behavior towards the char areas of Tangail has now taken a serious shape. This once vibrant region is today immersed in terrible suffering due to poor infrastructure, administrative complications and stagnation of development. In particular, the people of this char area are today facing serious crises in all areas - civic amenities, communication, healthcare and security.

The neglect that started during the previous government has now taken a severe form. Public anger is increasing day by day due to the government's inefficiency and apathy. Frequent power outages and the terrible condition of roads and ghats have now become a part of the lives of the common people. Due to the lack of attention from the government, people are facing various problems and deprivations. Although some government jobs in this region contribute, most are deprived of the benefits. The condition of birth registration, proper water drainage and road repair systems is very fragile.

Due to the severe shortage of doctors, lack of medicines, unhealthy environment and negligence in the health sector, proper treatment is not available in government hospitals and medical centers. As a result, the common people have become helpless. There is an increase in crime among the young people, and the young people are getting involved in various crimes including theft, robbery, dacoity and drug abuse. Locals are expressing concern and saying that it is not possible to stop this trend without effective steps by the administration.

Due to stagnation in the education sector, students are being deprived of higher education and anger is growing among parents. The past government used to give priority to party people to solve unemployment. Those who joined BNP were harassed with false cases. Therefore, Sultan Salauddin Tuku is a decent person. The people of Char believe that he will work to change the fate of the people of Char.

Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, a possible BNP nomination candidate in Tangail-5 constituency, said, "I have been fighting against political corruption for the past 16 years. The common people are happy to see banners, posters and festoons in my constituency. His supporters are working spontaneously by participating in the campaign. The administration has also taken various steps to prevent political violence."

Tuku said that to restore people's fundamental rights, equality must be brought into development activities and public interest must be given top priority.

Supporters of Sultan Salahuddin Tuku say that Tuku has much more public support than all other candidates. He is a politician with a clean image and organizational skills. Everyone wants to see him as an MP.

They said that other candidates, unable to tolerate Tuku's support and campaign, are running various misleading and false campaigns. This has exposed their organizational weakness to the common people. As the days go by, Tuku's campaign and public support is increasing. Voters are spontaneously participating in Tuku's public meetings and campaigns.

Sultan Salahuddin Tuku has become a symbol of hope for the people of Tangail-5 constituency. His life story, built on a blend of honesty, educational qualifications, social leadership and human service, has deeply taken a place in the hearts of the people of Tangail.

Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, the patron saint of Begum Khaleda Zia and a close confidant of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, has been a victim of torture, persecution and imprisonment during the 11th and the autocracy of Ershad. Tuku was a fighter on the streets in the anti-autocracy movement of the 90s. Ignoring the bullets of Ershad's thugs, Tuku used to lead the processions on the streets in the front lines. During Sheikh Hasina's regime, he has been sent to jail 13 times in more than 200 cases.

In the past one year, Tuku has worked day and night to bring back the outline of a transparent political pattern from the chaotic BNP party in Tangail. With the support of a few leaders, Trinamool and district BNP leaders and activists, the leader of the people, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, has succeeded in this most difficult effort. For this reason, even a small child in Tangail has adopted Tuku. For the youth, Tuku is not just a political leader, he is the guardian of the youth. Seeing his determination, talent, wisdom and patience, young voters have chosen Tuku to determine their public representative. In the upcoming elections, the first vote of the youth will be with the symbol of the sheaf of rice. The trust and faith of young voters in Tuku will be memorable to every person in Tangail Sadar.

Tangail Sadar Upazila is the administrative and economic center of the district. About 220,000 people live in Tangail Municipality. There are 12 union parishads in the upazila—Kartia, Gharinda, Magra, Mahmudnagar, Kakua, Hugra, Chilimpur, Dainya, Baghil, Katuli, Gala and Porabari. The total population of these unions is about 680,000. Of these, Kakua, Baghil, Katuli, Gala, Dainya, Magra and Mahmudnagar unions fall in the char region.

The main problems here are erosion of the Yamuna and Dhaleshwari rivers, dependence on waterways during the rainy season, and communication disruption during the dry season. The livelihood of the Char people is mainly dependent on agriculture and fishing, but losing crops and homes to natural disasters is a daily occurrence here.

On the other hand, traffic congestion, drainage problems and water drainage problems are becoming more and more apparent in urban areas. The local administration says that work is underway to solve these problems through development projects, but if urgent steps are not taken, the disparity between the rural areas and the cities will increase further.

Demand of Tangail district BNP leaders and activists

BNP has not had an office in Tangail district for 18 years. The leaders and activists work for the party sitting in restaurants, tea shops and on the sidewalks. There is also no full-fledged committee. In this situation, there is extreme disappointment and anger among the leaders and activists. Route-level leaders and activists are unable to reconcile the current pitiful state of the district committee without an office.

They demand that Sultan Salahuddin Tuku set a shining example by establishing the Tangail district BNP office on his own initiative.
