BNP firm on holding referendum on national election day: Khasru
BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said the party’s stance on the proposed referendum is clear—it must be held on the same day as the national election, leaving no room for further discussion.
He made the remarks while speaking to the media on Tuesday after a courtesy meeting between senior BNP leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cook at the BNP chairperson’s political office in Gulshan.
Amir Khasru further said that a fair election is impossible without a caretaker government. “There is no alternative to a caretaker government to ensure an effective Election Commission,” he added.
Regarding the return of BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, Amir Khasru said, “It’s quite clear that he will return to the country very soon.”
