Request has been made to show General Masud arrested in a corruption case

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a petition to formally arrest retired Lieutenant General Masood Uddin Chowdhury, a key figure of the 1/11 military-backed caretaker government, in a case involving the embezzlement of 119 crore BDT through a Malaysian labor recruitment scam. According to the petition submitted on Wednesday (March 25), Masood and his associates allegedly misused their influence to charge 7,124 workers excessively, far beyond the government-fixed rates. Masood, who previously served as the coordinator of the notorious National Coordination Committee on Serious Crimes and later became a Jatiya Party MP, was already arrested last Monday in a human trafficking case and is currently on a five-day remand. The court has scheduled a hearing for April 9 regarding the ACC's new arrest plea, as investigators fear his release could hamper the probe into his extensive financial irregularities and abuse of power.
