ICCR hosts musical performance celebrating monsoon

Celebrating the monsoon season that has inspired poets, musicians and artists, the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) of the High Commission of India organised 'Shravan Sandhya', a monsoon musical evening, on Saturday at the High Commission of India.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi, Deputy High Commissioner Pawan Badhe, among others, attended the event.

The programme presented an evocative musical experience that reflected the beauty of the rainy season while celebrating the shared cultural legacy that continues to connect the peoples of India and Bangladesh.

Revered in Indian and Bengali literary and musical traditions, Shravan evokes themes of the beauty of nature.

Through a carefully curated selection of songs, the evening captured the essence of the rainy season and its enduring place in the shared cultural heritage of India and Bangladesh.

The evening featured Hindustani classical music performances by eminent Bangladeshi artists Guru Anil Kumar Saha and Aloke Kumar Sen. This was followed by a Rabindra Sangeet rendition by renowned Tagore exponent Dr Chanchal Khan.

Guru Anil Kumar Saha is a distinguished Bangladeshi classical vocalist and respected music guru, known for his significant contributions to Hindustani classical music.

Over the years, he has trained numerous accomplished musicians, including Aloke Kumar Sen. Widely admired for his dedication to preserving and promoting the classical music tradition, Saha has played an important role in nurturing the next generation of vocalists in Bangladesh.

Shri Aloke Kumar Sen is a distinguished Bangladeshi vocalist known for his expertise in Hindustani classical and semi-classical music.

Trained in classical vocal music, he has performed extensively in Bangladesh and abroad, earning acclaim for his soulful renditions of ghazals, Rabindra Sangeet and modern Bengali songs.

His versatile repertoire and captivating stage presence have made him a respected name in the region's musical landscape.
