Govt may allow zone-wise Eid shopping: Minister

The government may allow zone-wise shopping ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, said Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi.

"People have to do Eid shopping from the nearby markets in their areas," the minister said during a briefing today.

Tipu Munshi also said, "Those, who are reopening markets, have to follow health guidelines properly. Some may not eager to reopen the market considering the current coronavirus situation. It's not mandatory to reopen markets."

Shops besides main roads will not be allowed to reopen, he added further.

Tipu Munshi said, "There will be no shortage of daily essentials in next four months as the country has enough stock. Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will start selling onion at Tk25/kg from Saturday across the country.

"The government has also taken steps to ease the import of daily essentials," he said, adding, "The container congestion at Chattogram port has been resolved."

The minister further said, "Imported goods from India will be carried here on cargo trains. A meeting in this regard will be held on Sunday to decide the date when the import will begin."

"Letters will be sent to the Bangladesh's high commission, embassies in different regarding readymade garment sectors as many buyers might want discount or cancel the orders. The officials will be asked to deal the situation," Tipu Munshi concluded.
