Domestic flights to resume operation from Wednesday


The government has extended the ongoing all-out lockdown for another week amid dire situation of coronavirus or Covid-19 in the country.

The lockdown will continue till midnight on April 28. Under special consideration, flights on domestic routes will be operated from Wednesday.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshal Mohammad Mofidur Rahman informed media on Tuesday that the decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting in this regard.

Flights on all routes other than Rajshahi and Cox's Bazar will resume operation from Wednesday morning, he said.

The CAAB chairman said that the traffic movement on the highways has been closed due to lockdown. As a result, expatriate Bangladeshis, who are intending to go abroad, are not being capable to come to Dhaka from various districts.

Such a decision of flight operations on domestic routes are taken considering their convenience. Besides, if the seats are vacant, ordinary passengers will also be able to move, he added.
