Trade summit gathers potential investment interest worth $1.16b: DCCI

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Rizwan Rahman has said that the recently held Bangladesh Trade and Investment Summit 2021 received a total potential investment interest worth $1.16 billion.

He made the statement while briefing the media on the outcome of the weeklong summit, at the DCCI auditorium in the capital on Monday.

The international summit, held from October 26 to November 1, was jointly organized by DCCI and the Ministry of Commerce marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangladesh’s golden jubilee of independence.

"We arranged 450 business-to-business (B2B) meetings, of which 369 were executed successfully. The execution rate was 82 per cent.”

“Total potential investment interest was $1.16 billion as a Chinese company has shown interest to invest $1 billion in infrastructure building," Rizwan added.

Addressing the event, Rizwan also put emphasis on working to enhance bilateral trade with the middle eastern countries with a view to access the Halal market for boosting Bangladesh's economy.

Meanwhile, Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh said Bangladesh may face a difficult challenge after LDC graduation and that is why the global policymakers should provide proper financing to Bangladesh to tackle the challenges.
