FT ONLINE

Readymade garment (RMG) workers will observe a two-hour hunger strike in front of the office of the wage board on July 31 to press home their demand for fixing Tk 16,000 as minimum wage.

The decision was taken at a meeting of several organisations of RMG workers held in the city on Friday.

As per the decision, the garment workers will start the hunger strike at 11 am in front of the wage board office at Topkhana Road.

The meeting rejected the minimum wage proposed by the representatives of owners and workers at a meeting of the wage board.

Workers’ leaders warned that dillydallying over fixing wage will invite dire consequences.

Coordinator of National Platform to Protect Garment Workers and Industry Abul Hosain, Bangladesh Garment Workers’ Oikaya Parishad convener Mahtab Uddin Shahid, M Delwar Hossain and Jolly Talukder were present at the meeting with Amirul Haq Amin in the chair.
