Allocation slashed for at least 14 ministries, div


Allocation for at least 14 ministries and divisions has been reduced in the proposed budget for fiscal 2021-22 compared to the proposed allocation of the previous fiscal year.

Among the affected ministries and divisions, the Ministry of Food is the worst affected, having received an allocation of Tk 5,310 crore in the proposed budget, Tk 737 crore less than Tk 6,047 crore allocated for it in the fiscal year 2020-21.

The Ministry of Housing and Public Works received Tk 6,345 crore allocation in the proposed budget for FY22 - Tk 591 crore less than FY21’s Tk 6,936 crore proposed allocation.

The Post and Telecommunication Division got a proposed Tk 2,549 crore allocation in the proposed budget for 2021-22, a decrease of Tk 591 crore from the proposed Tk 3,140 crore budget for the division in FY21.

The Rural Government and Cooperative Division got an allocation of Tk 1,791 crore in the proposed budget of the upcoming fiscal year, whereas it was proposed to have TK 2,235 crore in the national budget in fiscal 2020-21. Therefore, Tk 444 crore has been reduced from the previous fiscal’s allocation.

The Planning Division received Tk 133 crore in the proposed FY22 budget, reducing Tk 115 crore from Tk 248 crore allocation for FY21.

The Ministry of Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs has also seen a reduction in the budget proposed on Thursday, receiving Tk 1,182 crore - Tk 53 crore less than Tk 1,235 crore proposed in the fiscal year of 2020-21.

The Security Service Division of the home ministry was allocated Tk 3,808 crore in the proposed budget, which is Tk 50 crore less than the amount it received in the outgoing fiscal year’s proposed budget - Tk 3,858 crore.

The Ministry of Information got Tk 1,008 crore for FY22, according to the proposed budget. The proposed allocation for the fiscal year 2020-21 was Tk 1,039 crore - Tk 31 crore more than this year’s proposal.

The Ministry of Industries was to get Tk 1,585 crore this coming year - Tk 29 crore short than Tk 1,614 crore proposed in fiscal 2020-21.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change received Tk 1,221 crore allocation in the FY22 proposed budget, cutting Tk 25 crore from what it was allocated (Tk 1,246 crore) in the proposed budget for FY21.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has also seen a reduction in allocation, as Tk 1,115 crore has been allotted for it in the proposed budget - Tk 359 crore less than Tk 1,474 crore proposed in FY 2020-2021.

The Ministry of Textile and Jute was given Tk 692 crore in the proposed budget for FY22, whereas Tk 714 crore was proposed in the outgoing fiscal year. The ministry thus loses Tk 22 crore in the latest proposal.

The Cabinet Division got Tk 239 crore in the proposed budget of 2021-22 fiscal while it received Tk 258 crore in the proposed budget last year. Tk 19 crore has been reduced for this division.

The Legislative and Parliament Affairs Division was allocated Tk 36 crore this time while it got Tk 40 crore last year.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday placed the 50th national budget of the country at Tk 6,03,681 crore for the fiscal year 2021-22 (FY22) in parliament which was Tk 5,68,000 in the previous year (FY21).

The latest proposed budget has seen around a 6 percent increase compared to the outgoing budget.
