Iran seeks China-Russia support at the United Nations

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during a phone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday (March 24), urged China and Russia to take a firm stand at the UN against U.S. and Israeli "aggression." Araghchi accused the U.S. of manipulating the Security Council for its own interests and asserted that Iran would firmly defend its sovereignty. During the call, Wang Yi condemned recent U.S. and Israeli military strikes on Iran and expressed condolences over the death of senior Iranian leader Ali Larijani. Araghchi further confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed specifically to vessels linked to the U.S. and Israel, while coordination remains in place for other nations. In response, China reaffirmed its commitment to international law and diplomacy while opposing unilateral hegemonic actions in the region.
