Post-paid electricity consumers can replace meters with pre-paid ones: CAB

The post-paid electricity bill payers will be able to replace their meters with pre-paid ones to escape harassment regarding bill payment, said Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) on Saturday.

Consumers will have to buy the meters personally and inform the local power distribution office to get the service, reports a press release.

The information was shared at a programme organised by CAB at the Executive Engineer’s office of Power Sales and Distribution Division in Kalurghat of Chattogram on Saturday.

The CAB leader alleged that consumers are facing numerous problems regarding bill readings and people are being burdened with excessive bills.

Despite the government having supplied the pre-paid meters, the distribution process is being delayed, triggering additional suffering to the consumers, they said.

Power distribution Division’s executive engineer Mohammad Imam Hossain said consumers can change the meters by informing local power distribution offices after buying the digital meters personally.

“The local power distribution offices will carry on the next formalities,” he said.

Regarding any harassment and irregularities the consumers can also file their complaints at the official Facebook page of CAB, the press release said.
