2nd batch of Rohingyas leaves for Bhasan Char

The second batch of Rohingya, who are willing to go to Bhashan Char in Noakhali voluntarily, left Cox's Bazar's Ukhia on Monday morning.

Thirteen vehicles and 20 trucks carrying the first group left the transit point around 11:45am, according to witnesses.

Another two groups will also leave Cox's Bazar by today night.

The three groups will stay in Chattogram today and will depart for Bhasan Char on Tuesday morning.

Temporary transit points have been set up at the Ukhiya College ground to relocate the Rohingyas to Bhasan Char.

Multiple cloth pandals and booths have been set up in the college field.

However, no one from the administration gave comment over the relocation.

The Rapid Action Battalion-15 and other law enforcing agencies will be in charge of security, according to sources.

Sources also said that only those, who have voluntarily expressed interest in going to the island, have been included in the process. The move will ease chronic overcrowding in camps that are home to more than one million Rohingya.

Earlier on December 4, Bangladesh relocated more than 1,642 Rohingyas to Bhasan Char.
