DCCs retake charge of storm water drainage system after 32yrs


Two city corporations of Dhaka on Thursday retook the charge of storm water drainage system after 32 years from Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) to address the capital’s nagging waterlogging.

Now, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will manage the storm water drainage as well as maintain 26 canals and 10 box culverts.

WASA handed over the responsibility to DSCC and DNCC through singing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital on Thursday.

DSCC Chief Executive Officer ABM Amin Ullah Nuri, DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md Selim Reza and Managing Director of Wasa Taqsem A Khan signed the MOU on behalf of their respective sides.

After taking charge of storm water drainage system, two mayors of Dhaka promised to solve waterlogging problems of Dhaka by proper management of drainage by developing connectivity of water bodies.
