Defence budget goes up


The government has proposed to raise the budgetary allocation for the Ministry of Defence, Armed Forces Division and other services to Tk 37,281 crore for the fiscal year (FY) 2021-2022.

The allocation for the upcoming overall defence budget is 6.2 percent of the total proposed budget.

The defence sector budgetary allocation is Tk2,854 crore higher than the budget of the previous FY 2020-21 of Tk 34,427 crore.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal proposed the allocation for the defence services while presenting Tk 603,681 crore proposed national budget for the 2021-22 fiscal in the parliament on Thursday.

According to the proposed allocation, Tk 35,448 crore was allocated for defence services, Tk 1,789 for other services and Tk 44 crore for Armed Forces Division.

Out of the total amount, Tk 1,832 crore will be used for the development works.

Earlier, the government allocated Tk 34,427 for defence services in the FY 2020-21, which was reduced to Tk 33,500 crore in the revised budget.
