ACC seeks receipts for money taken by doctors and lawyers from clients

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has suggested to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to collect receipts for the money taken by the doctors and lawyers from their clients to bring them under proper tax net.

While briefing to media on Tuesday, ACC secretary Dr Muhd Anwar Hossain Hawlader said, “We want the doctors and lawyers to provide receipts to their client for money taken for their services. If they provide receipts after taking money, it will be included into the database of NBR.”

“Then it will be easier to update the tax file. Government revenues will be increased. This is an observation of the commission, a letter has been sent to NBR,” he added.

In a letter to the NBR on Monday, the ACC also asked the NBR to monitor whether the specialised physicians and lawyers issued invoices or money receipts to their patients or clients against their services in order to prevent tax evasion.

Tax officials suspected that physicians and lawyers concealed their actual incomes in the income tax returns to evade taxes.
