CTTC raids in Jamaat’s ‘secret office’ in Dhanmondi

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a drive at a "secret office" of the Jamaat-e-Islami in Dhaka on Saturday.

The office was set up at a building named “Oboshar Bhaban” in the Dhanmondi area.

CTTC sources said they raided the office around 6pm and found 11 crude bombs, some locally made weapons, several thousand books and leaflets, and lists of members and donors of the organisation.

The drive was conducted following the arrest of three Jamaat leaders – former central president of Islami Chhatra Shibir and incumbent Jamaat member Rashedul Islam, and Jamaat's metropolitan unit Treasurer Mizanur Rahman, and Shura member Abdur Rashid.

CTTC chief Md Asaduzzaman said the violence committed by Jamaat in the recent anti-quota movement might have been planned from this hideout. “We have found evidence here in this regard.”

Based on the information of the arrested Jamaat leaders, the raid was conducted, he said.

However, none was arrested during the drive.
