COAST helps 4 families in tragic trawler capsize incident in Bhola


On August 2, 2024, a trawler was capsized with 13 fishermen near Shivchar area in the estuary of Charfashan upazila of Bhola.

Five fishermen were rescued alive and four dead bodies were recovered. But the remaining four fishermen are still missing.

Those who died in the sinking of the trawler are: Md Kabir (32) of Ahmadpur Union of Charfashion Upazila, Father- Md Hossain, Ward No. 8, Md Hossain Majhi (50), Father- Nurul Haque Matabbar, Ward No. 7, Md Nuruddin (30) Father- Salim, Ward No. 8 and Md. Belal Mrida (50) Father Gani Mrida, Ward No. 9.

COAST Foundation, a non-governmental organization has provided financial support to four families who died in tragic trawler capsize incident in Bhola today.

It’s came to know that the trawler overturned due to the big waves of the sea while returning from fishing last Friday night. In this, 13 fishermen in the trawler fell into the rough sea. A nearby trawler came and rescued 5 fishermen while floating but 4 fishermen died and 4 fishermen are still missing.

COAST Foundation undertakes financial assistance to the deceased 4 families.

Today, in the presence of Charfashion Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer, Mr. Maruf Hossain Minar and Marine Fisheries Officer, COAST provided Tk 5,000 to each dead fishermen’s family, a total of Tk 20,000.

First of all, the affected families are very emotional after receiving this assistance. COAST is always first responder for people affected by all kinds of disasters in the coastal areas.
