Pakistan keen to boost ties with Bangladesh

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his desire to develop robust bilateral relations with Bangladesh that can serve the interests of the people of the two countries and bring about a meaningful change in their lives.

In a letter on 12 August, he congratulated Prof Muhammad Yunus on being appointed as the chief adviser of Bangladesh's interim government.

“Your appointment bears testament to the confidence and trust that the people of Bangladesh, particularly the youth, repose in your vision and leadership,” Shehbaz wrote.

Mentioning that Pakistan highly values its ties with Bangladesh as a brotherly Muslim country and a partner in South Asia, he said, “…I look forward to working closely with Your Excellency in the coming days on all matters of mutual interest, both in bilateral and multilateral domains.

“I believe we need to actively explore ways to enhance regional cooperation which is vital for the socio-economic development of the people of South Asia.”

Shehbaz said, “I wish to assure Your Excellency that the people and the Government of Pakistan stand in complete solidarity with the people of Bangladesh.

“We are confident that the resilient spirit and unity of the Bangladeshi people will lead them towards a brighter and harmonious future,” he added.
