PM hands over 3 jumbo cushions to fire service

Three jumbo cushions for using in the rescue operation during any fire incident have been handed over to the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over those to Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Md Sajjad Hossain at her office on Sunday.

The fire-resistant cushions were made of fiberglass which could be made usable in just a minute.

Each of the cushions was purchased for Tk 50 lakh.

The cushions are electrically non-conductive and could be used for transporting hazardous goods without vibration and absorbing spills.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and Land Minister SaifuzzamanChowdhury were present on the occasion.

Briefing reporters PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given necessary directives regarding activities of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Department in maintaining security and safety during rescue operation.

She said that the places of fire incidents are encircled with yellow tap during any such incident abroad. Such step could also be taken in Bangladesh, she opined.

Secretary to the Security Services Division of the Ministry of Home Mohammad Shahiduzzaman highlighted various activities of the department of Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Shahiduzzaman said a total of 411 fire service stations have been set up across the country till November 2019 while the number was only 203 in 2008.

Besides, 156 more fire stations are being constructed as part of Prime Minister’s pledge to set up at least one fire station in every upazila of the country, he said adding that 47 of these are now in operation.

He said that manpower of the Fire Service and Civil Division department have been increased to 12,296 till 2019 from 6,175 in 2008.
