Tarique Rahman should appreciate "Pintu-Tuku"s sacrifice

In the 13th National Parliament election, two of my brothers, Abdus Salam Pintu and Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, have been elected members of parliament from two seats in Tangail with a huge margin of votes.

BNP Vice Chairman Abdus Salam (Pintu) was in jail for 17 years in a false case filed by the fallen government. Of these, he spent 5 years in the execution cell. His younger brother, Central BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, had 338 cases against him. He served 5 and a half years in jail. He was brutally tortured on remand for more than 6 months on 46 occasions. There were also plans to kill Tuku multiple times.

These two brothers were outside the family for the past 17 years. Only Allah was their help. Mother of the Nation Begum Khaleda Zia used to love Tuku very much. Tuku, risking his own life and sacrificing the affection of his family, followed every order of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia to the letter. Sultan Salahuddin Tuku used to give the highest priority to the instructions of the Zia family for the party.

On the other hand, the Awami League police administration tried to get a confession against Tarique Rahman by taking Abdus Salam Pintu on remand, but they failed. Even when close to death, Salam Pintu did not lie against the leader. The Zia family is an ideal name for Pintu and Tuku.

Abdus Salam was elected from Tangail-2 (Gopalpur-Bhuiyanpur) constituency and Sultan Salahuddin from Tangail-5 (Sadar) constituency. Abdus Salam Pintu has been elected as a member of parliament three times before. Sultan Salahuddin Tuku was elected as a member of parliament for the first time.

Tangail district BNP leaders said that apart from these two brothers, no other BNP member from the same family has been elected to the national parliament in this year's elections.

Sultan Salahuddin Tuku took over the fragile politics of BNP in Tangail after August 5, 2024. If BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman makes these two brothers ministers, the problems that exist in BNP politics in the entire North Bengal will not exist in the future.

Abdus Salam received the highest number of votes among the 47 candidates in the 8 constituencies of the district. At the same time, he won by the highest margin. He received 1 lakh 98 thousand 213 votes. His nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Humayun Kabir, received 60 thousand 871 votes.

Tangail District BNP founding general secretary Abdus Salam was first elected as a member of parliament in the 5th parliamentary election in 1991. Later, he won the 6th parliamentary election in 1996 and the 8th parliamentary election in 2001. After being elected in 2001, he was appointed as a deputy minister in Khaleda Zia's cabinet. In January 2008, he was arrested in the August 21 grenade attack case. He was later sentenced to death in this case. After serving a long 17 years in prison, he was acquitted in this case by the High Court on December 24, 2024.

While Abdus Salam Pintu was in prison, his younger brother Sultan Salahuddin Tuku took charge of the Tangail-2 constituency in his absence. He was elected from that constituency with the BNP nomination in the 2008 and 2018 national elections. Later, he strengthened organizational activities in the Tangail-5 (Sadar) constituency. Not only that, in this election, he became an MP with a huge vote after facing all the conspiracies against Tuku. The people of Tangail expect Tarique Rahman to evaluate their sacrifice by making Pintu-Tuku ministers for the greater good.

Former member secretary of Tangail district BNP Mahmudul Haque Sanu said, "In this parliamentary election, apart from Abdus Salam and Sultan Salahuddin, no other two members of parliament from the same family were elected. The two brothers made many sacrifices for the party. Abdus Salam had to spend 17 long years in prison. Sultan Salahuddin also suffered many tortures, lawsuits and attacks while fighting the movement during the previous Awami League era. The party has valued them because of their sacrifices. At the same time, the people of Tangail have expressed their love for them by electing them with a huge vote. I hope BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will honor the two brothers."
