55 years of independence still many expectations remain unfulfilled: Shafiqur Rahman

Dr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, issued a statement on Tuesday (March 25) calling for the observance of Independence and National Day with due solemnity. He noted that even 55 years after independence, many aspirations of the liberation war—such as equality, human dignity, and social justice—remain unfulfilled. Reflecting on the end of 16 years of fascist rule following the July 2024 mass uprising, he expressed hope for a society free from fear, corruption, and extortion. However, Dr. Rahman voiced serious concern over the government's perceived reluctance to implement the 'July National Charter 2025,' which he claims has the support of 70% of citizens through a referendum. Paying deep tribute to the martyrs of 1971 and the July uprising, he urged the government to take immediate, effective steps to fulfill the charter's mandates without further delay.
