At least 25 Padma Bridges could be built with the money from smuggling: Sargis

Sarjis Alam, the North Bengal Chief Coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), alleged in a Facebook post on Tuesday (March 31) that approximately $68.3 billion (equivalent to 8.5 trillion BDT) was laundered from Bangladesh under the guise of trade during the last 10 years of the Sheikh Hasina administration.

Covering the period from 2013 to 2022, Alam highlighted the sheer scale of this financial drain by stating that the laundered amount could have funded the construction of at least 25 Padma Bridges.

He criticized the former government for institutionalizing such plunder, describing the massive capital flight as a defining characteristic of the previous regime's governance.
