Urea fertiliser price increased by Tk 6.0 per kg for farmers

The government on Monday raised the price of urea fertiliser by Tk 6.0 per kilogramme (kg) amid a global situation due to the Russia-Ukraine war and the Covid-19 pandemic.

The price of urea fertiliser at the farmer level was Tk 16 per kg till Sunday. Now the price has reached Tk 22 per kg from Monday. Meanwhile, the price has been set at Tk 20 per kg from Tk 14 at the dealer level.

The Ministry of Agriculture announced the new prices through a notice on Monday. The new prices are effective from Monday.

The hike in urea price comes as a blow for farmers during this peak Aman harvesting season.

Experts warned that the production cost of rice will be increased notably due to the price hike of urea fertiliser.

Of the requirement, the demand for the Aman season is nearly 0.9 million tonnes.
