BRICS New Development Bank’s head Dilma Rousseff confirms her re-election

The head of the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB), former Brazilian president (2011-2016) Dilma Rousseff, has confirmed that members of the financial body unanimously approved her re-election for another term.

"I have been re-elected. They [NBR members] have put forward my candidacy and the board [of the organization] unanimously approved this decision," Brazilian daily O Globo quoted Rousseff as saying.

Rousseff added that the BRICS countries will continue pushing for the participation in mutually beneficial investment projects instead of creating a single community currency.

"I believe they [BRICS members] will closely focus on investments as well as investment platforms," she noted.

During the 2024 BRICS Summit in Russia’s Kazan, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that the chairmanship of Brazil and Dilma Rousseff in BRICS New Development Bank should be extended. Rousseff chaired the NDB since 2023.
