French envoy discusses investment expansion with commerce adviser
French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Serre-Charlet held a meeting with Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin on Monday afternoon at the adviser’s office in the Secretariat.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and France.
Ambassador Serre-Charlet said that France has long been working to strengthen trade relations with Bangladesh and expressed his country’s intention to further increase investments here.
He highlighted France’s particular interest in investing in Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical and ICT sectors.
Bashir thanked the ambassador for France’s continued interest in investing in Bangladesh, noting that France has been a longstanding trading partner.
He emphasised that there is significant potential to deepen the partnership through expanding trade.
The adviser added that increased French investment would boost capital inflow into Bangladesh, benefiting the national economy.
He further stated that comparatively low labor costs and production expenses in Bangladesh make the country an attractive destination for French businesses.
Additional Secretary (Export) of the Ministry of Commerce, Md Abdur Rahim Khan, was also present at the meeting.
