Stocks rise on large-cap vibe


Stocks witnessed upward trend on Wednesday (Jan 9) as major indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges were found rising trend with higher activities of some large-cap securities.

 

The rising major sectors were insurance and engineering. A total of 120 securities of the large-cap group moved up on higher activities, reports state news agency BSS.

The broader DSEX index of the DSE closed the session with 27.82 points up at 5,798.59. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 7.93 points up at 1,315.99 and with 9.93 points up at 2,011.12 respectively.

The volume of shares decreased to 278.6 million from Tuesday’s 299.4 million shares. But the daily turnover in value at DSE increased to Tk 10.26 billion from Tuesday’s Tk 10.1 billion.

At the DSE, price of 148 securities out of the day’s 346 traded issues closed higher against 161 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were United Insurance, Prime Life, Sun Life Insurance, Prime Insurance and BENGALWTL while the major losing issues were Delta Spinning, Style Craft, Meghan Pet, Apex Spinning and ISNLTD.

Olympic topped the turnover leaders followed by Active Fine, BBS Cables, Singer BD and Dhaka Bank.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with upward trend with its major CASPI 71.72 points up at 17,779.51.

At the CSE, 265 issues were traded. Of those, 126 closed higher and 121 closed lower while 17.8 million shares worth Tk 629.5 million changed hands.
