A total of 135 gold bars weighing about 16 kilograms were seized from three private cars and six persons detained in Bahadurpur area of Jashore.

These gold bars were seized by members of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) Wednesday afternoon.

Based on secret information, three private cars were searched at a temporary check-post in Bahadurpur area on Jashore-Magura highway and some 135 gold bars were seized, said Lieutenant Colonel Shahed Miinhaz Siddique of Jashore 49 BGB.

He said the weight of seized gold bars is about 16kgs and the estimated value is Tk 13 crore. Six persons of three vehicles were detained in connection with the incident.

Legal measures are being taken about the seized gold and the persons concerned.

The government goes tough on the gold smugglers as the Customs officials arrested a man along with 34 gold bars at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram earlier in the day.

Drives against gold smuggling by the customs and various law enforcing agencies are praiseworthy being conducive for the local investment in jewellery industry.
