Drug dealer killed in Chuadanga ‘gunfight’


A drug peddler was killed in “gunfight” in Chuadanga sadar upazila early today.

The dead was Abul Bashar alias Pappu, 45, son of Bazlur Rahman – a local, our Kushtia correspondent reports.

Police intercepted a suspicious group near Uzalpur border when the latter opened fire, said Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station. 

The lawmen retaliated with equal, triggering a gunfight. After the gunfight ended, the body of Pappu was found lying on the spot.

One shutter gun, four crude bombs and 170 bottles of phensedyl were seized from the spot.

Arefin Bashar Newaz, the deceased’s elder brother, alleged that police had picked Pappu up last Monday. He admitted that Pappu was dealing in drugs.

OC Delwar, however, said police was not aware about any arrest of Abul Bashar.
